A perfect day in Cronulla

Keen to get the most out of your day in Cronulla? Follow our itinerary for the perfect visit to this beachside hot spot in Sydney’s south.

Enjoy a morning swim at Cronulla Beach

MORNING

Cronulla Beach is the only beach in Sydney accessible by train. Once you arrive, head straight to Next Door Cronulla (4/6 Kingsway) for a coffee and breakfast to start your day before taking a swim at either Cronulla Beach, North Cronulla Beach, or any of the four ocean pools along the 4km Esplanade. While you’re there, get a surf lesson with Cronulla Surfing Academy (2 Marine Esp). If you’d prefer to stay dry, simply walk the Esplanade and take in the sights, sounds and smells of the sea.

LUNCH

You should have quite an appetite after a morning swimming, surfing and strolling the beach, so it’s time to take part in that great Australian tradition of fish and chips by the sea. South Beach Seafood Co (1/20 Gerrale St) and Paris Seafood Cafe (136 Cronulla St) are both just minutes from Cronulla Beach. Grab your food and a spot on the grass at Cronulla Park and enjoy!

AFTERNOON

It’s time to see what else the Sutherland Shire has to serve up. Catch the ferry to Bundeena from Cronulla Wharf (Tonkin Street) and enjoy the Jibbon Loop Track to see Aboriginal carvings. Or book an eco kayak tour with Bundeena Kayaks (Bonnie Vale Picnic Grounds, Sea Breeze Ln), or get the best of both worlds with a combined guided walk and kayak tour.

EVENING

Head to Papa J’s (Shop 7/2/6 Cronulla St), or back to your morning coffee spot, Next Door Cronulla, for pre-dinner cocktails. Then, enjoy beachside dining at its peak at either Sealevel (2 Kingsway) or The Pines (1/8-18 Kingsway). End your day with some live music at Brass Monkey (115a Cronulla St) – descend below street level to this intimate venue.

GOT MORE TIME? Extend your stay and visit the outstanding Hazelhurst Art Gallery & Cafe (782 Kingsway, Gymea) or see a show at Pavilion Performing Arts Centre (30 Elton St, Sutherland).
