Highlights of the Blue Mountains

No visit to Sydney is complete without a day trip – or longer! – to the World Heritage Listed Blue Mountains, which await majestically on the city’s western edge. Here are the must-sees…

Three Sisters

A spectacular rock formation at Echo Point, Katoomba, which attracts millions of visitors each year. According to Aboriginal legend, they were three sisters turned to stone. Visit during the day, or visit at night to see them floodlit against the evening sky.

Scenic World

Also at Echo Point, Scenic World is a theme park where you can wander elevated boardwalks through the Jamison Valley, admire panoramic views of the Blue Mountains on its Scenic Skyway cable car, ride the Katoomba Scenic Railway – the world’s steepest train – and much more. (scenicworld.com.au)

Blue Mountains Explorer Bus

Hop on and hop off all day, every day with the Blue Mountains Explorer Bus. Stroll clifftops, visit waterfalls, and take your time as you enjoy the freedom to explore. See the website for timetables and more information, including recommended walks you can follow between stops. (explorerbus.com.au)

Govetts Leap

One of the Blue Mountains’ most iconic viewpoints with sandstone escarpments, sheer cliff walls and sweeping views of the magnificent Grose Valley – including the 180-metre Bridle Veil waterfall. Located in Blackheath about 10-15 minutes from Katoomba.

Katoomba Falls Night-Lit Walk

Take this 1.5km walk for a night-time viewing experience that reveals natural highlights like Orphan Rock, Witches Leap, Katoomba Falls and Katoomba Cascades. Lights turn on at dusk, and are turned off at 11pm (floodlights off at 10:30pm).
